Fed: Holiday road toll at 33 after girl dies in Vic

SYDNEY, Dec 27 AAP - Two fatalities in Western Australia and the death of a girl in
Victoria have brought the national holiday road toll to 33.

West Australian police said two people died in a head-on collision between a four-wheel
drive carrying four people and a car with two people at Lake Clifton, south of Mandurah,
at about 2pm (WST) on Saturday.

The two who died are believed to have been from the four-wheel drive.

Two other people were flown to a Perth hospital in a serious condition.

Police said at this stage details of the people involved in the accident were not available.

The deaths bring the state's holiday road toll to six.

Since then a single vehicle crash in Victoria has taken the life of a 17-year-old girl.

Police said a car carrying three people crashed into a ditch near Nathalia in the state's
north, and a 17-year-old girl from Nathalia died at the scene, bringing that state's holiday
road toll to 10.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the 18-year-old female driver had spinal
and neck injuries, while a 14-year-old passenger had leg lacerations.

Both were taken to Goulburn Valley Base Hospital.

Victoria continues to top the road toll with 10 deaths, followed by NSW with seven.

There have been six deaths in Queensland, six in Western Australia, three in the Northern
Territory and one in South Australia.

No road fatalities have been recorded in Tasmania or the Australian Capital Territory.
